I am delighted to announce the publication of my first book: Reimagining Payments: The Business Case for Digital Currencies. If you are thinking, “Wow, Michelle must have always dreamed of becoming an author!” The answer is unequivocal: NO WAY!

Let me tell you why I decided to bring a new book into the world.

From Idea to Reality

In 2015, I stumbled into the world of cryptocurrency. The more I learned, the more excited I felt about opportunities for this nascent asset class. Over the next few years, much of the industry was focused on investing in Bitcoin and Ethereum, mining tokens, and the promise of initial coin offerings (ICOs). ICOs didn’t interest me, and neither did mining crypto. Sure, I bought some Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other tokens. My real fascination, though, involved using cryptocurrencies to pay for goods and services.

Fast forward to the summer of 2022. Crypto winter and an impending recession were upon us. I thought about my work spanning nearly a decade. Much of that work has focused on financial integrity, compliance, and problems that have long plagued the payments industry: high transaction costs, lack of robust security, privacy limitations, and chargebacks.

With help from the amazing team at Racket Publishing, I turned these ideas into a timely 268-page book.

In Reimagining Payments, I explore the $2 trillion payments industry and explain why it’s ripe for disruption. Digital currency payments deliver many benefits, including reaching new customers, providing more secure payment choices, and reducing transaction-related costs and friction.

While I am a lawyer by trade, Reimagining Payments is neither a legal book nor a theoretical text. I impart strategic and tactical advice. You’ll find plenty of rich case studies, analyses, and syntheses. I would encourage anyone who wants to understand the future of payments to read it.

Formats

You can grab the paperback edition on Amazon now. Pre-order the Kindle version here. (It drops tomorrow.) The hardcover will arrive in January 2024. Finally, I am considering an audiobook so if that interests you, please let me know.
